An Introduction to
Dual Enrollment

We know choosing a college is one of the most important decisions your child will make. Through the Dual Enrollment Program, your child can get a head start on his or her college experience.

The Georgia Student Finance Commission will cover most of the cost of the program if your child qualifies. Research shows students who start college while still in high school perform well academically.

The Basics of Dual Enrollment

What is the Dual Enrollment Program?

The Dual Enrollment Program gives high school juniors and seniors the chance to enroll part time or full time to earn high school and college credit concurrently. Participation is permitted during the normal fall, spring and summer semesters of the college school year.

What Role Do I Play?

Your role is very important. If your child wants to take dual enrollment classes at Georgia State, discuss whether or not you think it’s the best fit. Remind your child that college material requires added responsibility (finishing class work on time, asking instructors questions when things are unclear and the like).

Your child may need your help getting to and from his or her classes on campus. He or she will also need money for class fees that aren’t covered by the Dual Enrollment Program.

How Does My Child Apply?

 Apply online at admissions.gsu.edu.

 Send in test scores:

    • Submit ACT scores through the ACT website (code: 0826)
    • Submit SAT scores through Collegeboard (code: 5251).
    • Submit Advance Placement scores through Collegeboard
    • Ask your high school counselor to submit your PSAT scores to Georgia State.

 A dual enrollment student must have completed Algebra II or an equivalent. If your child has not completed Algebra II, the student will need to take Accuplacer Elementary Algebra and meet the required score minimum before they can be admitted. Please use the following link to access information on testing counselingcenter.gsu.edu/testing.

 Submit official college transcripts for any college courses taken at postsecondary institutions apart from Georgia State.

 Log in to the Admissions Status Check to track admission progress online and ensure deadlines and other requirements are met.
